Interview with Gary Burgess

As a lot of you may or may not know International Umpire Gary Burgess started off his umpiring career in our Bedford League!!!! He is a former PE teacher from Bedfordshire, who left his career in teaching to pursue the role of Head of Officiating at England Netball. He has just achieved his 100th cap as top level official during the Netball World Cup 2019, making him the first umpire in the UK to accomplish this. In order to commemorate this historic milestone, ACME awarded him a special engraved version of his trademark ACME whistle.

During the interview, he covers a number of interesting topics including what inspired him to become an umpire, what advice he’d give to a young umpire, and of course, his signature golden whistle which was gifted to him by ACME for his 50th international.
